A fully functional 104 foot high lighthouse, with a a 36,000 lumen aviation beacon, will begin shining on June 20, 2013 as part of the West Virginia 150th anniversary. However, the story behind it shows how an opportunity has been taken to provide excellent training.

The local newspaper describes how the project is providing technical training for students from Nicholas County, who are welding the 120 steps, and Fayette County, who are fabricating the solid steel octagon light room frame.
