The Society was begun in 1961. The musuem and headquarters was a former store built in 1835. The Society maintains a document archive, of church and town minutes, farmer's journals, personal letters and other records of the history of Ashfield. It displays arifacts representing life in Ashfield over the past 250 years.Above the store is a recreation of the storekeeper's apartment with furniture appropiate to the period of about 1850.
