During the 2nd World War a Radar post was developed on top of the hill, near the lighthouse. Both structures have suffered extensive damage during many of the cyclones that hit this coast.
This location has the distinction of being one of the few places in Australia where you can watch the sun both rise and set.
There are currently no tours of the lighthouse due to extensive damage from cyclone Vance in 1999.
