Visitors to the historic town of
Port Gamble are inundated with historical elements throughout the township. Almost every building in this town contains a historical marker that highlights the history of prior occupants. Each marker stands out nicely on painted burgundy boards and gold lettering. The fire hall contains a marker on the front of the building that reads:
FIRE HALL The fire hall building, its origin uncertain, was apparently installed or moved between the Masonic Lodge and the Community Hall between 1929 and 1956. The mill workers acted as a volunteer fire department for the mill and town. The building was converted to a commercial use in 2001. |
I could find no other pertinent information regarding the history and background of this former fire hall.
I DID manage to locate a PDF document of a walking tour of Port Gamble.
This fire hall, along with the majority of residences and businesses in Port Gamble, is owned by Pope Resources and maintained by Olympic Property Group and many homes and buildings are available for rent/lease throughout the year.
