On the south side of Central Avenue at 5th Street, Gyro Park is one of several downtown parks in Grand Forks. One of its "different" features is the giant chessboard. If you care to play, just go across 5th Avenue to the visitor's centre and they'll show you how to get at the chess pieces.
The easiest way to find this park is to simply drive down Central Avenue until you see a bunch of flags on the south side. At the front of the park are flags of Grand Forks, the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary, British Columbia, Canada, the U.S., and each of the Canadian Provinces.
The park has several dedicated benches for resting the tired tootsies, a grassed area in the centre for frisbee or football tossing, the chess board, and a small museum of old fire fighting equipment and carriages and wagons on the western perimeter.
