[DE] Das Denkmal, das vom Bildhauer Paul Wedepohl gestaltet wurde, wurde am 17. Juni 1963 feierlich eingeweiht. Es ist eine sechs Meter hohe Säule aus rohem Eisen mit einer Feuerschale auf der Spitze. Die Säule ist von einer Kette umgeben, deren letztes Glied gerissen ist. Die Säule trägt die Inschrift "17. Juni 1953". Ursprünglich stand die Säule an der Ecke Jahnstraße/Frankfurter Straße. Später wurde sie zur Uferstraße verlegt.
Nach der Wiedervereinigung wurde eine Bronzeplakette hinzugefügt, die vor der Säule angebracht ist. Sie zeigt zwei Menschen, die einen Kranz halten und trägt als Inschrift "Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit für das Deutsche Vaterland - Wiedervereinigung 3. Oktober 1990"
[EN] The memorial, designed by sculptor Paul Wedepohl, was inaugurated on 17th June 1963. It is a six-meter-high column made of raw iron with a fire bowl on top. The column is surrounded by a chain, whose final element is broken. The column bears the inscription "17. Juni 1953." Originally, the column stood at the corner Jahnstraße / Frankfurter Straße. It was later transferred to the Uferstraße.
After reunification, a bronze plaque was added which is mounted in front of the column. It shows two people holding a wreath and bears as inscription the beginning of the Germany national anthem: "Unity and justice and freedom for the German fatherland - Reunification October 3, 1990"
