[DE] Das Rathaus von Herborn hat seine jetzige Gestalt um 1630 erhalten, geht aber auf einen Bau von 1589 zurück.
Heute Hauptsitz der Stadtverwaltung, war das Rathaus früher Tagungsort des Gerichts, des Rats, der Zünfte; es diente gleichzeitig als Stadtwaage, Tanzhaus, Weinkeller, Getreidespeicher, Waffenarsenal und Abstellraum für die Feuerlöschgeräte.
Das Innere zeichnet sich durch eine großzügige Eingangshalle mit einer frühbarocken Treppe aus.
Um 1650 begann man damit, die Brüstung der Außenwand der Ratsstube mit Familienwappen, Zunft- und Handelszeichen der Herborner Bürgermeister und Ratsherren zu schmücken. Dieses kommunalpolitische "Who is Who" wurde 1914 wiederhergestellt und gibt noch heute darüber Auskunft, wer vor ca. 400 Jahren in Herborn das Sagen hatte.

[EN] The Town Hall of Herborn received its present form in 1630, but goes back to a building of 1589.
Today the headquarters of the City Council, the Town Hall was once the venue of the Court, the Council, the guilds. It simultaneously served as city scales, dance house, wine cellar, granary, armory and storeroom for the fire extinguishers.
The interior is characterized by a spacious entrance hall with an early Baroque stairway.
By 1650 people began to decorate the balustrade of the outer wall of the council chamber with the family crests, guild and trade marks of mayors and councilors of Herborn. This local government "Who's Who" was restored in 1914 and till today shows who was in charge in Herborn 400 years ago.
