This monument is a fine bronze statue of a Cherokee Strip cowboy on a quarter-horse, with a history plaque telling the story of "the horse that won the West."

The marker reads as follows:

"THE HORSE THAT WON THE WEST

WAS

founded on the blood of the famous Morgan horse, the favorite breed of Generals Sheridan, Stonewall Jackson. George A. Custer and J. E. B. Stuart. Purebred Morgan and Thoroughbred stallions were furnished to ranchers, cowboys, and the Indian tribes to upgrade the mixture of the mustangs that surrounded the remount stations of the West.

The Cowboys from our own Cherokee Strip were the best in the world. The cowboy was honest, hard-working, and a good friend. Here, we see the manhood that conquered the Plains – protected the Pioneer woman and inspired his children to a useful life.

This statue is by Francis Sedgewick – cast by Bruno Bierzi of Milano, Italy – and is a gift by the Robert Morgan Family to beautiful—historic -- Perry Oklahoma." [end]
