The marina is approached from the English Channel by passing through the Outer Harbour or south of the Southern Breakwater and directly into the Inner Harbour. From the Inner Harbour the Tidal Basin is reached by passing between the North and South Piers. The northern part of the Tidal Basin has some moorings but the preferred moorings are in the locked docks of which there are two.
The Granville Dock marina is entered through a lock at the west side of the Tidal Basin and the Wellington Dock marina is entered through a lock at the northern end of the Tidal Basin.
