Erected in 1878 by the Ladies Memorial Association of Augusta, this very large momument honors the the "men of Richmond County who died in the cause of the Confederate States." The monument stands in the median of Broad Street and is visible from nearly every part of downtown Augusta.
The monument is one of the biggest and most beautiful monuments in the area. It contains the likenesses of Confederate Generals Walker, Lee, Jackson, and Cobb, and is topped by an unnamed Confederate private. The monument is made of granite and Italian marble and is a definite must-see for any visitor to Augusta.
