This beautiful sculpture is propelled by the wind. The wings of the sculpture have been stylized to represent the Polynesian sails in honour of Tangata Whenua. The blue legs symbolize the connection of the people to the land. And the shape of the wings is evocative of a butterfly, an ancient symbol of human endeavour, spirit and hope, common to all.
The Dutch descendants donated this work of art as a token of appreciation for the hospitality received during their years of settlement.
