Located just east of Savanna, Illinois. This road follows the course of the Plum River. Located only 5 miles up-stream from the Mississippi River, many turtles seek a place to lay eggs. Although I don't drive this road often, I have helped one other turtle cross at this location. I have also seen what remained of one turtle that didn't make it across the road. This Painted Turtle was heading back toward Plum River.

By chance we were sitting on the porch when we noticed little blandings in the same location we had seen the mother take 2 months earlier."
