I felt like I stepped back in the 70s when I entered this library. The computers and Free wifi brought me back to reality. It's a ones story building open Monday through Friday and thanks to budget cuts, closed on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The place was packed with school children when I visited. The library is home to the LEAP After School Program which offers homework help, computer assistance and special programs.
As far as the name of the library, it is located in one of Philadelphia's unincorporated neighborhoods, still keeping its identity but now a part of the Philly. Lawncrest is a neighborhood in the "Near" (lower) Northeast Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The name is an amalgram of Lawndale and Crescentville, the two primary communities that make up the neighborhood.
Off to the left is a section called Lawncrest Memorial Grove which features a path leading to a clearing. In the middle of the concrete patio at the end of the path is a multi-war memorial for the Korean and Vietnam wars. Near the beginning of the path, flanking both sides are memorials, identical, one to WW I & one to WW II.
