Catching Up is a 5.75' high bronze figure of a man who is leaning against a building reading a newspaper. The bronze sculpture is painted in shades of green and brown to give the sculpture a realistic appearance.
The man is bald, wearing moustache, loafers, slacks, a open cardigan sweater, and a tie. His right shoulder is against the wall, and his legs are crossed at the ankles, right over left. He is reading a newspaper opened to the editorial/entertainment pages of the July 4, 1985 edition of the English language Montreal Gazette. A suitcase is standing on the sidewalk by his side.
The sculpture was created by John Seward Johnson II also known as J. Seward Johnson, Jr. an American artist who is renown for his life-like depiction of people engaged in common activities. It was installed on 4141 rue Sherbrooke Ouest in 1985.
A bronze plaque at the base of the sculpture is inscribed:
