A fountain had been erected over a natural spring at this site, and dedicated toGen. John C Freemont. I don't know why or how the fountain stooped working, but it is still commemorated with a historical marker and a wide shoulder/cutout along Rt 9.

Now it appears to be a planter with annuals in in, but even those looked somewhat neglected when I discovered it.
