The small town Kašperské Hory is a well-known medieval centre of the gold mining. Now it is a summer and winter holiday resort. It lies on the upper reaches of the Otava river on the border of the Protected Landscape Area Šumava (Bohemian Forest) below the ruins of the Kašperk castle.
IC offers:
- permanent exhibition, divided into several parts devoted to Šumava.
- the panels provide information on the history of settlement in Šumava, on the Šumava peat bogs, glacial water lakes, shipping canals and the NP mission. The exhibition concludes with a "mini planet" and a panel on bats.
- a corner with an exhibition of cones, a collection of summer forest fruits and herbaceous plants, seedlings, droppings and pellets. Younger visitors can see the fox-earth, take the animal test, puzzles and other attractions.
- multimedia kiosk with touch screen featuring the following presentations:
Past and Present, Water-weed, Biosphere Šumava Reserve, Šumava and man-made forest-free areas, Bats, Šumava Fauna and Forest care.
- wide range of information and promotional materials (maps, postcards, guidebooks, etc.)
