At Canada's Central Experimental Farm, the Eastern Cereal and Oilseed Research Centre (ECORC) is home to three herbaria collections. The largest herbarium here, DAO, dates from 1886. The Department of Agriculture (DAO) Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada National Collection of Vascular Plants includes 1,550,000 specimens.
In 2005, the 40,000 specimens of the dried plant collection of the Carleton University herbarium (CCO) were added to the DAO. The National Mycological Herbarium (DAOM) dating from 1909 and consisting of 300,000 specimens is also housed at the ECORC building.
The K. W. Neatby Building (also known as building no. 20), the location of the ECORC and the herbaria, dates from 1937 but has been seriously modified over the decades. Through the years, the Wm. Saunders Building (also known as building no. 49) has housed administrative staff for the herbaria. Waymarking photographs of either building will be accepted to record a visit.
Guidelines for visitors to the herbarium are posted on the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada web site. Such visitors may or may not include the general public.
