THE PLACE:
The Merle Anderson Memorial Bridge is located on E. Boomer Street in Lexington. This is a 34 ft. wood covered bridge which spans a creek within a residential park. Each of the side walls has three octagon-shaped window openings. The slightly pitched roof has wood shingles with a cone-shaped cupola with wood shingles and a weather vane.
THE PERSON:The bridge was dedicated to a civic leader, Mr. Merle R. Anderson, who passed away in 1996. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II, was a member of the Lexington Park Committee, and active in local endeavors.
A framed memorial on the west side of the bridge reads:
