Sandy was founded in 1873 and incorporated in 1911. On Saturday, June 4, 2011 Sandy Plaza was dedicated and renamed Centennial Plaza. Ceremonies were planned from 10am to 11 a.m. and included the unveiling of the Centennial Mural attached to the back of the building at U.S. 26 and Meinig Avenue, adjacent to the plaza.
In the south-west corner of the Plaza is this fountain depicting full-sized salmon swimming round columns of rocks. A memorial plaque with the above dates has been placed by the fountain.
The 12-foot by 60-foot Centennial Mural was painted by Lee Lauritzen with assistance from Craig Lauritzen and features a variety of images from Sandy's historical past as well as the present.
