Johannesburg also known as Egoli (Place of Gold) is the largest city in South Africa, by population. The city is one of the 50 largest metropolitan areas in the world, and is also the world's largest city not situated on a river, lake, or coastline.
The Carlton Centre was the tallest building in the southern hemisphere when completed and is still the tallest building in Africa. The view from Top of Africa, the 50th floor of the building, is a popular tourist attraction.
The coordinates were taken at the entrance to the Garden Pavilion Shopping Center (Carlton Center) on Main Street.
