"Liberty Tribune is one of several community newspapers published by NPG Newspapers Inc. in the greater Kansas City area. It is one of the oldest continuously published newspapers west of the Mississippi River, providing local news for more than 165 years from its office in downtown Liberty. The Tribune published its first edition in 1846.
The 7,000-circulation weekly in the Clay County seat serves Liberty and the surrounding area with local community, education, government and sports news -- both in print and online. The newspaper has a rich tradition of providing information and commentary on current events. Its Opinion Page proclaims: "Willing to praise but not afraid to blame.
Liberty Tribune is part of NPG's highly regarded group of newspapers published in the Northland of Kansas City. Its sister publications include The Kearney Courier, The Smithville Herald and Gladstone Dispatch. All of these publications are intensely community-focused in their content. Their goal is to be the primary source of local news within the individual communities they serve.
In addition to the weekly editions of each newspaper, the Northland group also produces various specialty publications throughout the year. These include sections highlighting spring and fall home improvement, an annual Progress guide from the local business community, education guides, previews to high school sports seasons and more. Northland Family, with a family medical guide inside, is a regular addition to the paper the first week of each month.
It also publishes various glossy specialty publications like the Northland Healthcare Directory, Explore Liberty city guide and other custom publishing pieces.
Liberty Tribune and NPG's Northland publishing group have won hundreds of Missouri Press Association awards in the past decade as well as more than a dozen national awards from Suburban Newspapers of America. Liberty Tribune won MPA's Gold Cup for weekly newspapers in 2006 and 2009.
Liberty Tribune is a division of NPG Newspapers Inc. and News-Press & Gazette Co., a multi-generation, family-owned company based in St. Joseph, Mo. NPG Newspapers publishes community newspapers in northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas, as well as numerous specialty publications.
In addition to newspapers, NPG operates a commercial printing division with an integrated mail services facility, a new data storage company, and various broadcast television and radio stations throughout the western United States, including new Fox, WB and Telemundo affiliates in St. Joseph."
