This statue of of Henry Hardin Cherry, former president of Southern Normal School as well as Western Kentucky State Teachers' College. Both schools were located in Bowling Green and were precursors to Western Kentucky University, where the state stands.
The life-sized statue is located in front of Cherry Hall, named for Cherry as well. The design is of the dignified Cherry, wearing a traditional suit and tie. He stands facing the road on the north side of campus, as if he is watching over that end of the campus and the building behind him.
The statue was placed in the mid-1930s with the dedication in 1937. It is made of bronze and on a pink granite base, according to the SIRI database. It was sculpted by Lorado Taft.
