"CITY OF MOSAICS
Levelland has several outdoor mosaics throughout the city and has become known as a "City of Mosaics." A mosaic is a 6000-year-old art technique in which cubes of glass tile are fixed in a pattern to make a work of art.
In 1968, Levelland's first mosaic was created by art professors from South Plains College on the exterior of the college's Fine Arts Building. Since then several more have adorned the sides of some of the city's most prestigious buildings. A total of 10 mosaics are on display throughout the city.

"Located at the corner of Ave H & Austin St on the Hockley County Library. This mosaic was designed & constructed by Burl Cole in 1984. The scenes were inspired by recollections of those who taught and attended the schools, old photos & the artist’s ability to put a bygone era into a heart-felt tribute to the schools of the 1930’s in Hockley County. The mosaic uses 28 different colors."
