Eros, Son of Aphrodite, was the Greek god of love.
The near earth asteroid 433 Eros is named after him.
Eros was the first near earth asteroid discovered (in 1898) and it was the first asteroid to be orbited by a human spacecraft, which eventually landed on the asteroid named after the Love-God just two days before Valentine's Day 2001.
A relief of Eros is part of the Gigantomachy Frieze in Berlin's Pergamon Museum. |
