The installation is atop a tall white windowless building on the northeast corner of the airport. The NWS offices are a few hundred feet to the south east of the radar dome itself.
This radar installation covers an area west to Coeur d'Alene, ID, north to the Canadian border, east to Helena and south to Challis or Stanley, MT. WSR-88D can detect most precipitation within approximately 80 nautical miles (nm) of the radar, and intense rain or snow within approximately 140 nm.
To get a close up view of the radar, take the service road northwest from the airport entrance for less than a half mile and the dome will become evident ahead on the left.
