In 1926, when Route 66 was constructed through this area of central Oklahoma, it was an unpaved road meandering through the town. In 1933, the road was paved, and the Captain Creek bridge was constructed west of town, along the Route.

This is a camelback pony truss bridge, 225 ft. from the ends of the deck, with the truss itself being 100 ft. long. The bridge was made in the standard design of the Oklahoma Highway Department and has a concrete deck covered in asphalt, 22 feet wide. The bridge is steel on concrete piers.

Unfortunately, shortly after construction, amid much disagreement between the town folks and the government, the U.S. Bureau of Roads made the decision to re-route Route 66, to straighten and shorten it, bypassing the town to the south about a mile.

The bridge is still is use locally today, along what is known as Route 66B. The bridge was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.
