This bronze plaque, with an engraving of the Noriega family home, recognizes the home site of one of Scottsdale Arizona's first hispanic families. The plaque reads:
Noriega Family Home Site
This land was once owned by one of Scottsdale's original families.
Gerbacio "Harvey" Noriega (1895-1998)
and his wife Guadalupe Valdez (1901-1986)
built two homes here.
The homes were part of the Mexican "barrio",
bounded roughly by Main Street
Second Street, Brown Avenue, and Civic Center(Drinkwater) Boulevard.
The Noriegas raised four children here:
Raul, Armida, Rosemary and Paul.
Harvey is remembered as one of the finest cowboys
that worked on cattle ranches in the area.
According to legend, he could lasso a deer.
Other memories of Scottsdale's heritage can be seen at
The Little Red School House Museum.
