EN: The Schürhof, also called Little Rollerhof is located at the northern end of the cathedral square. It is one of three houses on the square that have not been rebuilt in the 18th century in the Baroque style and retained its Gothic character.
The three-story building with the small-scale Gothic windows is quite unadorned. There is no indication that the prince-bishops of Basel in the Middle Ages resided here when they were in the city. This only changed with the construction of Bischofhof in the 1450s.
The Schürhof now houses a part of the Museum of Cultures and the Ethnological Department of the University.
DE: Der Schürhof, auch Kleiner Rollerhof genannt befindet sich am nördlichen Ende des Münsterplatzes. Es ist eines der drei Häuser am Platz, die im 18. Jahrhundert nicht im Stil des Barock umgebaut wurden und ihren gotischen Charakter beibehielten.
Das dreistöckige Gebäude mit den kleinteiligen gotischen Fenstern ist ziemlich schmucklos. Nichts weist darauf hin, dass die Fürstbischöfe von Basel im Mittelalter hier residierten, wenn sie sich in der Stadt befanden. Das änderte sich erst mit dem Bau des Bischofhofs in den 1450er Jahren.
Der Schürhof beherbergt heute einen Teil des Museums für Kulturen, daneben ist das Ethnologische Seminar der Universität untergebracht.
