The American narrator and main character in Casey Nelson's mystery novel "Nothing Gold Can Stay" visits Hampstead Heath. In Chapter 3, Ray O'Brien, a gay American who has recently been dumped by his military boyfriend, comes to Hampstead Heath to visit the swimming ponds "to test my flirting skills..." But then it rained in the mid-afternoon...and everyone scrambled away.
There are several ponds at Hampstead Heath and one of them is frequented mostly by gay men.
