The cathedral in Limburg (Limburger Dom) was formerly found on the back of the 1000 Deutschmark note (Third series banknotes of West Germany, first issued 27th July 1964.

Although strongly desired by trade, the Bundesbank hesitated with the introduction of the new thousand-mark note to counter rumors of impending inflation. However, the number thousand-mark notes rose steadily over the years. In 1964 640,000 1000 DM banknotes were issued, in 1974 4.5 million and another ten years later, 19.4 million.

The image of the backside of the 1000 DM banknote depicts a unit of currency issued by Germany. It is believed to be in the public domain (under § 5 Abs.1 UrhG) as an official work issued by a German federal or state authority, or by a predecessor state. (visit link)
