1912 Ellison School

Ellison District has a long history of supporting public education. The first school, commencing in September 1894, was in the upstairs of Joseph Christien's home. In 1895, a one-roomed school house was opened on land donated by the Whelan family. It served local children until December 1911. Ellison residents proudly witnessed the opening of their new school in January 1912. It included space for two classrooms, reflecting Ellison's continued growth.

Hundreds of students have passed through this school, receiving a quality education. The 1912 Ellison School has hosted many community events including dances, meetings, theatrical performances, debates, and concerts. It closed its doors as a school in June 1996, and is now the Ellison Heritage School Community Centre. This historic building's centennial is appropriately recognized, as it continues to serve local citizens.
