Formed in 1940 to replace citizens with buckets, the Keremeos VFD now has a nice fire hall and a beautiful lineup of equipment. The evening we were out after photo ops the department happened to also be out washing and servicing all the shiny red and chrome trucks. Here's their apparatus lineup:

Active Apparatus
  • Engine 1 - 1999 Freightliner FL80 / Fort Garry
  • Engine 2 - 2003 Freightliner FL80 / Hub
  • Rescue 1 - 1989 Chevrolet Cheyenne 4x4 / Harbor/Nor-Mar
  • Rescue 4 - 2006 Freightliner M2 / Hub
  • Unit 4 - 2004 Dodge Sprinter / Hub utility
  • 1977 Dodge cube van transport (former ambulance)
Retired Apparatus
  • 1975 Dodge D800 / Superior tanker
  • 1969 GMC C960 / King front-mount pumper
KEREMEOS VOLUNTEER
FIRE DEPARTMENT

The Keremeos Volunteer
Fire Department was started in 1940 after the 13 members received civil defense equipment consisting of a bickle pump unit, coats and other miscellaneous items. Previous to that a community volunteer bucket brigade fought all fires in Keremeos.

Today the role of the KVFD has expanded to include, not only fire fighting, but also rescue operations. Member training has become more rigorous and comprehensive as a result.

The KVFD prides itself on being a well trained and well equipped emergency service.
