Autrefois le terme désignait, en termes de charpenterie, une espèce de porte mobile, verticalement posée entre deux coulisses, servant à retenir et lâcher les eaux d'une écluse ou d'un étang. Ici c'est pour faire dévier le débit d'eau qui va faire fonctionner la roue à aube de la scierie. Portes de dérivation avec cric de vanne manuel, dont on voit le maniement sur le panneau.
