If you don't live in the area, there are only two things that would bring you near these falls: fly fishing, and the DEC Parking area at Balsam Lake And the Finger Lakes Trails that passes over Balsam Lake Mountain.

These falls are the very picture of serenity, but you will be challenged to view them more carefully than from your car, idling by the side of the road. The 'parking coordinates' represent the location from which I took the picture, but there is no shoulder on this remote back road, and a nearby private access road is clearly marked "no parking" to discourage visitors from blocking the access road.

If you are willing to work for a closer look (and it will require effort, make no mistake) there is a DEC parking area about 1/2 mile west along Beaver Kill Road, back the way you came. How can I be so sure it's back the way you came? Because this road dead ends at the Balsam Lake DEC parking area. In fact, you may have to drive to that area in order to turn your car around (remember, I told you the road has no shoulders).

If you ever wanted to know what Vernooy Falls looked like, but didn't want to hike to the edge of the Shawangunk Mountains to see it, this falls is very similar in almost every respect: water volume, height and width of the falls, number of individual cascades, even the way the woods closes in on the falls on either side.
