In Strasburg, within the Pennsylvania Railroad Museum, is this shay-type steam locomotive marked as from Leetonia Railway and numbered No. 1.

The Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania is next to Strasburg Railroad and east of the center of Strasburg approximately 1 mile along PA Route 741.

This engine is currently at one corner of the museum's display area. The website, (visit link) , has the following info about this locomotive:

Museum inventory number: RR72.24.1
Railroad that Owned it at the Time of Purchase: Leetonia Railway
Engine No: 1
Type: Shay
Build Date: 1906
Configuration: 3 Trucks
Length: 40 '
Weight: 137,000 lbs
Acquisition Date: 10/1966
Other Note: Never operated on Leetonia Railway, but typical of PA lumber industry.

Shay locomotives have two or three vertical drive shaft, and gears that transfer the motion to other drive shafts and then to each of the wheels. This makes every wheel a drive wheel and improves traction. The primary builder was Lima Locomotive Works in Lima, OH, but other shops built them too. They were built from 1885 to 1945, and there were over 3500 of them. Today, only 117 are known to have survived.
