[E] It is thanks to Jacques and Jean Davidson, both sons of the sculptor Jo Davidson that Alexander Calder discovers the village of Saché. He was invited several times to the manor of Bécheron. There he even will stay a part of the summer of 1953.
He decided to live in Saché. He buys John Davidson's House, located at the foot of the hill of La Basse-Chevrière where he established his residence and his studio. It also buys the little house that is in front and become La Gouacherie. These places remained virtually unchanged.
But too cramped, lacking light, he built a workshop in 1963 on the hillside facing south, in a dominant position, the High Carroi and near a house and a greenhouse in 1966.
It is in this workshop that will sculpt his major works: 1963: The 3 Wings - 1965: Le Guichet - 1966: Crossed Blad - 1967: Man - 1968: High speed - 1969: The Southern Cross - 1970: Indiana Redskin - 1974: Red Horse and 1975: Red Spider.
In 1988, the Atelier Calder was made the disposal to the French state by the Calder heirs so that French and foreign artists could come to work. The vast building and the adjoining house offer exceptional conditions for residents. The vast esplanade in front of the workshop allows working outdoors and also the unloading equipment and materials needed for various artists.
Calder Saché'Site became an important place of birth and the development of projects in the field of visual arts. The choice of artists is made by the Board of Directors after consultation with an artistic committee.

This sculpture was donated by Alexander Calder to the City of Saché.

[F] C'est grâce à Jacques et Jean Davidson, les deux fils du sculpteur Jo Davidson, qu'Alexandre Calder découvre le village de Saché. Il est invité plusieurs fois au manoir de Bécheron. Il y séjournera même une partie de l'été 1953.
Il décide donc d'habiter à Saché. Il achète à Jean Davidson la Maison François 1er, située au pied du coteau à La Basse-Chevrière où il installe sa résidence et son atelier. Il achète également la petite maison qui est en face et qui deviendra La Gouacherie. Ces lieux n'ont pratiquement pas changé.
Mais trop à l'étroit, manquant de lumière, il fit construire en 1963 un atelier sur le coteau exposé au sud, en position dominante, au Haut Carroi, puis à proximité une maison et une serre en 1966.
C'est dans cet atelier qu'il va sculpter ses principales œuvres : 1963 : Les 3 ailes – 1965 : Le Guichet – 1966 : Crossed Blad – 1967 : Man – 1968 : La grande vitesse – 1969 : La Croix du Sud – 1970 : Indiana Redskin – 1974 : Cheval Rouge et 1975 : Araignée Rouge.
En 1988, l'Atelier Calder a été mis à la disposition de l'Etat Français par les héritiers de Calder afin que des artistes français et étrangers puissent venir y travailler. Le vaste bâtiment et la maison attenante offrent des conditions exceptionnelles aux résidents. La vaste esplanade située devant l'atelier permet le travail en extérieur et aussi le déchargement de matériel et matériaux divers nécessaires aux artistes.
Le site Calder de Saché est devenu un lieu important de la naissance et du développement de projets dans le domaine des arts plastiques. Le choix des artistes est fait par le conseil d'administration après consultation d'un comité artistique.

Alexander Calder fit don de cette sculpture à la Mairie de Saché.
