The Chapel of St Michael and All Angels (below the Vavasour Window) has a recumbent alabaster effigy known as "the Pilgrim" (said to be one of only two in the country) in a canopied tomb niche. The subject holds a pilgrim's staff and other symbols such as a wide hat with cockle shells. A dog lies at his feet. The fifteenth-century figure was originally brightly painted, and depicts a person of noble birth. It is believed to represent Thomas, the third brother of William Hastings.
