Carron cannon, cast in 1806, located atop Mount Pelion in Trenton, ON. Cannon was hauled to the top by 6 teams of horses during the early part of the 19th century, ostensibly as an "early warning" device should the US invade from the south during the War of 1812.
After the War, the cannon was used for ceremonial purposes after the accession of Queen Victoria to the throne. This practice ceased after 1898 due to an excessive charge resulting in many shattered windows.
