Le Colbert, portant le nom du ministre de la Marine de Louis XIV Jean-Baptiste Colbert, était un croiseur de la Marine nationale française entre 1956 et 1991. Converti de 1993 à 2007 en navire musée à flot à Bordeaux, il est depuis amarré sur coffre au Cimetière des navires de Landévennec, près de Brest, en attente de déconstruction.
Il est le 6e bâtiment de la marine à porter ce nom, et le second croiseur ; le précédent, un croiseur lourd de 10 000 tonnes entré en service en 1932 avait été sabordé le 27 novembre 1942 à Toulon.
Ce fut un navire de guerre essentiellement destiné à la lutte anti-aérienne. Sa construction débuta sur demande de la Marine nationale en 1953 dans les chantiers navals de Brest. Le Colbert devait être un navire surpuissant, écrasant toutes menaces par sa seule force d'artillerie : il disposait de tourelles de 57 mm et de 127 mm pour une cadence de feu d'un tir à la seconde.
Le site, situé tout au fond de la rade de Brest, dans une boucle de l'Aulne prés de Landévennec et protégée des vents dominants cette reserve sert depuis le 17ème siècle notamment à ce dernier méandre de l'Aulne, profond et abrité, pouvant accueillir en toute quiétude les plus gros vaisseaux. Il faut cependant attendre le milieu du 19ème siècle pour voir se créer la Station Navale visitée par Napoléon III lors de son voyage en Bretagne en août 1858.
Depuis le belvédère la vue est imprenable sur le croiseur Colbert et le cimetière de navires.
Colbert, named after the Minister of the Navy of Louis XIV Jean-Baptiste Colbert, was a cruiser of the French Navy between 1956 and 1991. Converted from 1993 to 2007 in the museum ship afloat in Bordeaux, he has been moored on chest Cemetery vessels Landévennec near Brest, awaiting deconstruction.
It is the 6th building of the Navy to bear this name, and the second cruiser; the previous one, a heavy cruiser of 10,000 tons entered service in 1932 was scuttled November 27, 1942 in Toulon.
It was a mainly intended for anti-aircraft warship. Construction began at the request of the Navy in 1953 in the shipyards of Brest. Colbert was to be a high-powered ship, overwriting any threats by its own artillery force: he had turrets 57 mm and 127 mm at a rate of fire of a shot to the second.
The site, located at the bottom of the harbor of Brest, in a loop of the Alder near Landévennec and protected from the prevailing winds this reserve is used since the 17th century including the last meander of the Alder, deep and sheltered up accommodate the largest vessels in peace. However, it was not until the mid 19th century that created the Naval Station visited by Napoleon III during his visit to Britain in August 1858.
From the belvedere the view is breathtaking on the cruiser Colbert and cemetery ships.
