(mostly self reporting / remote) set up by the Univ. of California Began at Davis agricultural department in 1982 in cooperation with the State Department of Water Resources. Besides TEMPERATURE, the station measures hourly EVAPORATION, PRECIPITATION (rain), HUMIDITY, SOIL TEMPERATURE, WIND SPEED, and SOLAR RADIATION. This station is roughly 20 feet square.
Metal placards indicate who to call to retrieve items that may land inside, or to report damage or vandalism to the local water district. CIMIS Station 131. (California Irrigation Management ?) Information System. Noticed the small solar panel that apparently facilitates the remote reporting.
