"Sanford O. Lacey - - a local architect - - was retained and ground was broken on June 7, 1898. In October of 1899, the Church, predominately of Roman architecture, was completed. On October 8, the farewell service was given in the old sanctuary. Sunday, October 15, marked the first worship in the new Church, with the following day being the time of formal dedication. On the occasion, more than 1,700 people attended, with Pastoral representatives from several local Churches as well as from out of town. Following the formal service, but preceding the dedication, Mr. Dunham gave a brief review of the financial problems involved. He noted that the total cost - - lot, structure and furnishings - - amounted to $52,100.00 of which more than $12,000.00 was still to be paid. "
