The building was built in 1857 to serve as the first bank building in Millville. In 1908 the bank moved to larger building in the building became the public library for Millville until 1963. The building then served as public health clinic and since 1977 has served as the headquarters for the Millville Historical Society. The building has been restored and renovated and is in excellent condition.

The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
