The fountain is located in the churchyard cemetery of Lausen. While the center of the current town Lausen is a few kilometers away, the church once belonged to the village Bettenach, that was inhabited from the Roman times in the 1st century AD until the 12th century.

The fountain is shaped after a Alemanni cross fibula from around the year 700, that was found here during excavations in the years 1985-92. The stone fountain has a diameter of about 1.5 meters.
