The grave stone of musician and inventor Les Paul is in city-owned Prairie Home Cemetery, Waukesha, Wisconsin. "Les Paul" was the professional name of Lester William Polsfuss. He is buried next to his mother Evelyn Stutz Polsfuss. Both have large flat horizontal markers, but beyond Les Paul's marker is a headstone-style stone monument with a sculpted Les Paul model guitar and an engraved signature.
Les Paul was born Lester William Polsfuss, in Waukesha, Wisconsin. He was a musician and an inveterate tinkerer. Besides being a professional jazz guitarist who reached the height of his popularity in the 1950s with his wife, singer Mary Ford, he is credited with inventing the solid-body electric guitar and overdubbing. He was an early experimenter with multi-track recording and reverb, and patented a guitar pickup.
The Gibson "Les Paul" model of electric guitar is named after him and based on his design.
