EN: The Vitra Design Museum is located on the northern edge of the premises of furniture manufacturer Vitra. The museum houses a world-famous collection of works by almost all known industrial designers. The collection is only partially shown and supplemented by changing exhibitions.
The museum building itself is just as well known as its contents. It was created in 1989 by Frank O. Gehry and was his first building in Europe. The two-storey house with its towers, ramps and cubes is considered a key work of deconstruction.
DE: Das Vitra Design Museum befindet sich am Nordrand des Firmengeländes des Möbelproduzenten Vitra. Das Museum enthält eine weltweit bekannte Sammlung von Werken fast aller bekannten Industriedesigner. Die Sammlung wird nur teilweise gezeigt und durch wechselnde Themenausstellungen ergänzt.
Das Museumsgebäude selbst ist genau so bekannt wie sein Inhalt. Es wurde 1989 von Frank O. Gehry erstellt und war sein erstes Gebäude in Europa. Das zweistöckige Haus mit seinen Türmen, Rampen und Kuben gilt als ein Schlüsselwerk des Dekonstruktivismus.
