Growing up in the coal mining town of Springhill, Nova Scotia, Anne Murray, Canada's Snowbird and First Lady of Song, began to indicate the magnitude of her talent at an early age, singing constantly by the age of seven. At age 15 she began to take voice lessons and gave her first public performance at her grade 11 graduation ceremony. After her rendition of Ave Maria she noticed people crying in the audience, at which time she knew her voice must be special.

Having sold over 50 million records, Anne has won dozens of awards, many of which are displayed at the Anne Murray Center, which has welcomed over 400,000 guests since opening in 1989. They include Grammy Awards, American Music Awards, Academy of Country Music Awards, Gemini Awards, as well as a number of Juno Awards. Many of her Gold and Platinum record awards are also in the centre's collection, as are such things as a few of her many Hall of Fame Inductee awards.

One may even watch a session with Anne and and Rick Mercer on You Tube, originally aired on CBC March 11, 2008.
