The title character in Matt de la Pena's novel "Mexican White Boy" , Danny, is a confused kid with a real talent for pitching baseballs. His new friend Uno has devised a plan to make money by hustling other high-school aged kids.... betting that Danny can strike them out. In the middle of the novel, Danny takes on another challenger, a Mormon player from a visiting team. They play their match in front of the Air & Space Museum and Danny strikes the player out. The novel was first published in 2008...and at that time there was a green field in front of the Museum. It is located in Balboa Park. But since that time the green area has unfortunately been converted into a parking lot.
