EN: The Schällbachponor is located in the forest east of Zwingen. It lies on the karst trail and can be reached by foot easily. At the side of the path there is an information board.
The Schällbachponor was originally the place where the Schällbach river disappeared into the ground. Today the creek found new outlets into the karst soil and the ponor is usually dry. Only when it rains it can be flooded up to two meters above the entrance hole. Under the narrow entrance there are two spacious chambers that have only been accessed in 1973 and 2002 respectively. With a length of 140 meters and a depth of 33 meters, this is the deepest known sinkhole of this area.
DE: Der Schällbachponor befindet sich im Wald östlich von Zwingen. Er liegt am Karstlehrpfad und ist einfach zu fuss zu erreichen. Am Wegrand befindet sich eine Informationstafel.
Der Schällbachponor war ursprünglich die Stelle, wo der Schällbach im Boden verschwand. Heute hat der Bach aber neue Abflüsse in den karstigen Boden gefunden und der Ponor ist in der Regel trocken. Nur bei starken Regenfällen kann er bis zu zwei Metern über dem Eingang überflutet werden. Unter dem engen Eingang befinden sich zwei geräumige Kammern, die erst 1973, bzw. 2002 erreicht wurden. Mit einer Länge von 140 Metern und einer Tiefen von 33 Metern ist dies die tiefste bekannte Doline dieses Gebietes.
