The Hill was gifted to the residents of Woodhaven by the Richardson family, for all to enjoy, on October 3rd, 1999. The land is cared for by the Woodhaven Community Club. It consists of a level lawn adjacent to Assiniboine Avenue, with a steep slope down into the Sturgeon Creek flood plain, and further green space leading to the creek.
The coordinates are for a plaque placed to commemorate the gift of The Hill to the people of Woodhaven. The plaque is affixed to a large rock, and includes a poem by Winnipeg entertainer Fred Penner. The complete text of the plaque reads:
The Hill
The Hill knows the seasons. The wind and snow, rain and sunshine, The sounds of the city in the distance.
It wonders at this changing world, But everyday it feels the life and love of someone, Who stops and sits and shares the calm.
Come, stand on The Hill. Watch and wait with your children. Listen. Remember.
