This place was in former times the drawbridge leading into the courtyard of Castle Saterslo, one of the first castles of Twente.
This fortress was besieged several times in its long history, conquered and rebuilt.
Historical data:
1145 - Mention of crusader Jacob van Saterslo.
1258 - Herman van Saterslo the first Seneschal of Twente.
1397 - Berend van Reede from Bocholt marries heiress Soldelina van Saterslo.
1514 - As Adriaan van Reede married Lucia van Goor, the house is completely renovated.
1555 - Emperor Karel the V appointed Godert van Reede to chief bailiff of Utrecht. The most famous lord van Reede of Saesvelt marries the wealthy Gertrude van Nyenrode and buys Castle Amerongen and makes it noble center of Utrecht and Holland.
1735 - The last van Reede sells the Castle with about 30 farms to the Count Droste zu Vischering from Darfeld.
